What Is A Mum?

What Is A Mum?

It’s Mother’s Day so I thought I would write a post for all the mothers and daughters out there. You might have bought your mum some flowers, sent her a card or taken her out to lunch but have you actually taken a moment to think about all the things she does for you?

Mother’s Day feels a little forced to me. I do not want to be expected to show love, appreciation and emotion on a specific day that someone else has chosen. Putting on an act is not something I am able to do. I like to show loved ones how much I care with simple little gestures and thoughtful acts rather than spending money on expensive gifts (although spoiling loved ones on occasion is an amazing feeling and sometimes grand gestures are needed). Can’t decide what to get your mum? Everything & Stuff have come up with some unique gift ideas.

While I was writing this post I was well aware that this is mainly just my experience of what a mum is. I am conscious that some people might not have the same feelings, and that’s OK. Make your own list of the things you think a mum represents.  No matter what type of mum you have, every once in a while it’s important to think about what having a mum means to you. If your mum isn’t around anymore then take some time to remember how much they enhanced your life and appreciate the memories you shared.

I would like to dedicate this to my mum, who is sometimes not appreciated for everything she does.

A mum is someone who will defend you no matter what

A mum is someone who will always forgive you

A mum is someone who will be there in a crisis

A mum is someone who loves you for who you are

A mum is someone who would do anything for you

A mum is someone who will pick you up from rock bottom

A mum is someone who you can always turn to

A mum is someone who is brave when she needs to be

A mum is someone who will tell you when you are wrong

A mum is someone who will put your needs before hers

A mum is someone who tries her best to provide for you

A mum is someone who makes mistakes, like everyone else

A mum is someone who tries her best

A mum is someone who tries to do the right thing, even if it’s wrong

A mum is someone who helps you with important decisions

A mum is someone who will love you through thick and thin

A mum is someone who needs to feel appreciated

A mum is someone who needs to lead her own life

A mum is someone who tries to stay positive

A mum is someone who tries to be strong, often for too long

A mum is someone who will try and protect you from the world

A mum is someone who will struggle to let you go

A mum is someone who will always put a roof over your head

A mum is someone who will notice your achievements

A mum is someone who will encourage you to be your best

A mum is someone who can’t bear to see you in pain

A mum is someone you cannot choose, or change

A mum is someone you can trust

A mum is someone you love no matter what…
