Things To Do At Home When It’s Raining

things to do when its raining

Dear Mr weather man, just FYI, it’s summer. Why the heck is it as if a monsoon has hit the UK? I just tried to drive on the M25, on a Friday afternoon, in the rain. AM I MAD? It was awful and depressing and I wish I hadn’t left the house.

I have seen a few people are getting married today on Facebook. Oh dear, I feel your pain. It’s been so lovely and sunny lately and then pow, the rain has washed away our summer spirit. Well, I will not let the rain beat me. It’s meant to last a few days, so I thought I would come up with some ideas of stuff to do at home when it’s raining.

We can be typical British souls and sit in moaning and grumbling, or we can take the opportunity to do something fun or perhaps even useful. Here are some fun things to do if you are slipping into a wet weather related bad mood.

Plan your next holiday

Oh yes. It may be raining outside but it certainly won’t be on your next sunny holiday, which you can plan right now. How about some winter sun? Or a festive city break? Use rainy days to plan holidays or a fun weekend away.

Watch Netflix all day

I have about ten TV series that I have recently started watching on Netflix, and I don’t have any time to watch them. There’s nothing better on a rainy day than an epic marathon of a TV series that you are addicted to. My current faves are Suits, New Girl, The Following, Orange is the New Black, Pretty Little Liars (oh the shame) and Brooklyn 99.

Go on a run in the rain

Now hear me out. Yes it looks yucky and horrible outside, but when you get out and run in the rain it’s actually quite refreshing. Just head out when the rain is nice and light rather than in an epic thunderstorm.

Clean your house

Borrrinnnggg, but so satisfying. If you want to do something productive on a rainy day then clean your house from top to bottom. Then sit back, relax and feel proud of yourself.

Play with your pets

We often don’t have much time to play with our pets. A rainy day is the perfect opportunity to spend some quality time with your beloved pets. Give them some much needed attention and maybe teach them a few tricks.

Bring out the board games

You can’t beat a good old board game on a rainy day. Monopoly is an obvious winner. Card games can also be very relaxing.

Have a nap

When one has absolutely nothing to do, a nap is an ideal way to pass the time. My god naps are amazing. You can fit a good hour nap in on a rainy day and wake up feeling refreshed.

Make a mouth-watering meal

Throw your apron on and spend a few hours cooking a culinary delight. Try a new recipe, cook that dish you have been meaning to do for a while, or just cook a good old fashioned comforting roast din din. Bliss.

Sort all your crap out

You probably have 495737 things that you obvs need to do, but you have been putting off for a while. Spend your rainy day ticking off your to do list.

Get creative

Get off your darn phone and do something creative instead. Do some painting, write a short story or try some arts and crafts. All these things are très therapeutic.

Read your favourite book

Personally, I absolutely love reading, but I don’t do it enough. I am on my phone too much when I should be reading. Find a reaaalllyyy good book and get properly into it on a rainy day.

Bake cakes

Spend your entire day baking, because why not? If you can’t cheer yourself up with sunshine and blue skies then delicious cakes will just have to do. Plus your house smells amaze after a baking sesh. Yum.

Sort out your clothes

Tackle that wardrobe. Sort through your clothes and make a pile of things you are never going to wear. Take them to the charity shop. That’s one good deed done.

Play an instrument

I am definitely not musical. I have tried playing both the guitar and the clarinet and I was horrendous. Either play an instrument yourself or find someone who can play for you.

Watch old family videos

A classic rainy day activity. Dig out your old family videos and start reminiscing.

Yoga and meditation

Find your yoga mat and watch a YouTube yoga tutorial. Or spend some time meditating with candles, lots and lots of candles.

Have a bubble bath

This won’t waste much time, but if you have had a bad day it will instantly revive you. Have a proper posh bath with bubbles and candles and maybe even a glass of wine.

Pamper yourself

Find those face masks you haven’t used yet or try out a new shade of nail varnish. Get some you time and pamper yourself for a few hours.

Do a home workout

Just because it’s raining outside doesn’t mean you have an excuse to skip exercise altogether. Do a home workout in front of the tv.

Ring people you haven’t spoken to in a while

There’s always someone you need to ring, or a long lost friend that you need to touch base with. Use rainy days to ring people and have a good old chat.
