Things I Need To Stay Content

thins that make you happy

I am constantly thinking about how I can improve my outlook on life. I have come a long way in the last year or so, partly by gradually working out the basic things I need to stay content. To be truly ‘content’ in life must feel so satisfying. To not only be be grateful of all the things you have, but to accept the things that you don’t.

The problem is, getting to a point where you can honestly say you are content is extremely difficult. It seems like a neverending journey, a light at the end of an endless tunnel. You tear your hair out and wonder what exactly it will take for you to be 100% happy.

Can anyone ever really be completely happy and satisfied with their life? The answer depends on your attitude and expectations. One of the main things I have learn’t is I can’t be happy if I keep having such high expectations of myself, and also the people around me.

Some people might claim to be ecstatic and seem to be constantly walking on cloud nine, but in most cases, it’s an act. People put on an elaborate show to portray the false illusion that everything in their life is perfect. You know these type of people, the ones that are constantly gushing on Facebook about how perfect their family/partner/spouse/job is. All they are doing is building a wall to protect themselves. Sorry I sound like such a grinch…Of course some people are going to be happy but the ones that truly are probably aren’t the ones that are bragging about it.

Anyways, as usual I have gone a bit off topic. The main thing I wanted to say was that it is helpful to focus on the things that make you happy. Not other people, YOU.

Don’t read the 22 things you can do to stay happy articles on Buzzfeed and be tricked into thinking your life will instantly improve if you do all those things.

When it comes to your happiness, your bucket list needs to be personalised. So I urge you to take a few minutes and write down a list of things that you think will help you be more content. When something makes you smile, or you are appreciative of an aspect of your life, make a note of it. If I didn’t have my own list then I would be a bit of a hypocrite. So here goes. I will be constantly trying to do these things more often. I won’t include everything that’s on my list or this blog post would go on forever, so here is a small sample to give you some ideas.
