Moon Magic: How to Work with Lunar Energy

how to harness the power of the moon

Have you heard people talking about lunar energy? Perhaps it has piqued your interest, but you’re not really sure what it is. Well don’t worry, this article will clear up your confusion and give you an intro to lunar energy.

The moon impacts us more than we realise

The moon. We all know it’s there – I bet you’ll have seen it countless times, glowing spectacularly in the night sky, in all its various phases.

But how often do you take a moment to pause and really take notice of it?

Does it ever hit your eye like a big pizza pie, as the old Dean Martin song goes?

It can be so easy to take everyday things for granted. Nature, the sun, breathing in fresh air on a beautiful day. Life gets SO busy. We’re down here, rushing around like little turbo-charged worker ants, while up there in space, an array of entirely different worlds exist.

And although it seems so far away, the incredible power of the moon affects our little planet in a BIG way.

Moving oceans & controlling seas

the moon's impact on the sea

Think about it; you’re strolling along the beach, sand between your toes as the waves lap at your feet, watching the foam-speckled surf roll in and out, that familiar motion – wait, what controls the tide?

Yep, you got it – the moon. Influencing the movement of the entire ocean? Now, that is some energy!

How you can use the power of the moon

You can totally harness this magical energy and infuse it into your life.

How is this useful? Well, it can help you:

  • Navigate through the year
  • Stay grounded
  • Gain mental clarity
  • Create the life you truly want

‘Moonology’ expert Yasmin Boland explains ‘the more in tune you are with the Moon, the easier life will flow.’

First things first; there is no right or wrong when it comes to working with energy, lunar or otherwise. The world of astrology can be overwhelming – there is a lot to it!

So, let’s keep our moon magic simple.

An intro to Full Moons and New Moons

There are nine main phases of the moon. However, the two main phases to work with are Full Moons and New Moons.

Full Moons

You’ve spotted a lovely, luminous Full Moon at some point in your life. You know, the kind that stops you in your tracks and urges you to stare at it, eyes wide, mouth open in awe (c’mon guys, it can’t just be me who’s a massive moon geek…)

During this phase, the energy of the moon is also at its peak. Makes sense, right?

So if you’re feeling super emotional, or if things seem somewhat chaotic, it’s okay – that’ll be the full moon energy. Try and embrace it.

This is a time for reflecting on areas in your life that may have been unclear, as they’re now being illuminated and revealed.

Maybe you’ve been manifesting something – now is also a time to release anything that isn’t serving you. Once you let go of any negativity, you automatically make space for what you really want. The full moon asks us to forgive and to surrender, so we can move forward under its guiding light.

Journal

Feel free to write down all your reflections and revelations. Journaling is great for getting everything out of your head and onto paper if your mind feels a bit messy…kinda like a closet clear-out for the brain!

Charge your crystals

If you’re a crystal collector, place them outside or on a window sill under a full moon. This is a brilliant way to replenish their energies.

Make some ‘moon water.’

Fill up a glass bottle with water and, like the crystals, put it outside or on a window sill. Take a sip the next morning and use this over the coming month for a splash of moon power, whether it’s in a drink, a bath or a spell.

Meditate

Simply light a candle and sit comfortably, take some deep breaths, close your eyes and allow yourself to be present. Notice your body and accept how it feels. Let your thoughts float by like clouds in the sky – notice them and just let them pass. Now, imagine the sparkling white light of the full moon shining down on you filtering through your crown and filling your whole body. Stay with this feeling for as long as you like, before gently coming back to the space around you and opening your eyes. Aaaaand, relax.

So what happens next?

Over the next couple of weeks, as the moon starts to wane, it leads us to the New Moon.

New Moons

Be prepared to feel a bit tired – as the moon disappears behind a shadow in the sky, so its energy dwindles. However, it still holds power, because this is the best time for manifesting!

Set your intentions

Get really clear on these. Don’t be vague with your wishes – be as detailed as you possibly can and make these firm commitments to yourself.

Journal (some more)

Write your goals down and be precise. Here’s a top New Moon manifestation tip: write these intentions as though you’ve already achieved them. Begin them with ‘I am’ and ‘I have’ – then write down what actions you can take towards your goals. Go get ‘em! You tailor your own life with your thoughts, emotions and purposeful actions. Lunar energy can be a fantastic guide, showing us where to go and what to do next, while allowing us to make better sense of our thoughts and feelings. All topped off with a sprinkling of that mysterious moon magic, of course…

Life throws curveballs. It can be a really crazy rollercoaster. You’ll experience the highs, the lows and everything in between. Slowing down and focusing on the moon’s energy each month can really help you listen to your inner wisdom, trust the process and, in my experience, boost your well-being. So, go on…look up at the Moon, listen carefully and show yourself some love.

THAT’s amore.
