My Next Travel Destination Is…

My Next Travel Destination Is…

Top Secret. Maybe not top secret from the rest of the world but defo top secret from my fiance. He turns 30 next month, and I’ve planned a surprise trip. I’ve obvs done this coz it’s his birthday and all, but also because, well, my next adventure is overdue.

So frustratingly I can’t tell you where I’m going or what I’m doing just yet, but rest assured, I will let you lovely folks know the down low asap. My travel plans have kind of been held back by one minor, or not-so-minor thing – our upcoming wedding. All our £££ is being saved for that right now, leaving my measly travel budget rather empty.

But it’s not all bad, coz, hurrah, I’m off on a winter honeymoon. And to be fair, so far this year, I have been to Morocco and Mallorca. Which is an OK effort, but there’s definitely room for improvement.

It’s literally killing me not being able to talk about where I’m off to next month. I’m the worst at keeping secrets. Maybe I should just come out and say it. But I’d really like to keep thing quiet right up until we reach the departure gate and he’s like ‘OMG we’re going to destination X? You’re the best fiance ever.’

I’ve been so busy with work lately that this break could not come sooner. You know when it feels like your brain is going to split into a million pieces that you need some downtime. I mean, it’s got to the point where I’m struggling to form sentences and complete basic daily tasks because my brain’s completely out of gas.

I’m not sure I can wait three weeks. So I’m considering booking myself into some sort of writers’ retreat. Or maybe just a spa. Yes, what I need is a two or three-day spa break – with no computer, no phone and no technology. Perhaps just access to an Instagram account so I can share how totally zen I’m feeling.

If that doesn’t happen I will just have to make the most of this cool trip I’ve got planned. And believe me, it is super cool. There are a few little tidbits I can divulge to you, hopefully without giving anything away to the other half.

  1. We’re staying on a boat – I’ve told him this. Because even though he knew I was booking something secret, he still looked at my screen and saw pictures of a boat on Airbnb. But luckily he didn’t see the destination. That’s something I love about Airbnb – you just can’t find the kind of unique accommodation they have in the same way elsewhere. I mean, we are staying on an actual boat, which will enable us to see far more of the destination than if we were on foot.
  2. We’re going for 3.5 days – The perfect amount of time for a short break. I don’t know if I’m getting old but I find that staying a week in one place is a bit much, unless the place is epic obviously. But in most instances I find myself wanting to uncover somewhere new.
  3. I’ve never been to this place before – I’m really trying not to go back to the same places. Because, well, life is short, and I’ve only got one lifetime to see as many places as possible. And this is a place that is somewhere you just have to visit. It’s on my travel to do list and I can’t wait to tick it off.

That’s it for now. Watch this space. There will be a full report upon my return.
