Our Trip To Pollença and Palma, Mallorca For A Destination Wedding

A few months ago we set off to Pollença, Mallorca for a destination wedding. I’ve been to Mallorca before (Cala D’Or), so I was intrigued to see another part of the island. We went to Cala D’or for a girls’ holiday. I loved the pretty covers with bright blue waters and sheltered beaches.

We didn’t have a car but I reckon if you hired a car you could find some spectacular little bays. However, I found it far too British for my liking. The restaurants weren’t very authentic and we ended up having more international food than Spanish. It was a relaxing break with the girls but I probably wouldn’t go back. So, onto Pollença.

A destination wedding in Pollença

Firstly, I should explain that we went there for a very important wedding. I was a bridesmaid, and the location of the wedding was like nothing you’ve ever seen. It was based in a huge villa on an olive estate in the mountains.

The views were heart stopping. Paella and tapas for wedding breakfast anyone? The whole day was incredible, finishing up with a massive outdoor party under fairy lights with one of the best DJ’s I’ve ever come across.

The guests had to go up this windy long path in minibuses that barely fitted round the bends. They had to do a few maneuvers to get around the twenty something hairpin bends. However, this added to the mystery and impressiveness of the location. We had canapes by the pool and dipped our toes in, whilst a camera drone captured images of everyone having fun.

Here are a few wedding pics to give you an idea of just how spectacular it was….

What’s Pollença like?

We were out on Mallorca for five days in total. So with the wedding it gave us three or four days to chill a little and check out the local area. Pollença is the perfect family holiday town, because it seems to safe, quiet, relaxed and everything is so easy to get to.

As soon as we arrived and started strolling round the town we felt relaxed. It’s odd because the atmosphere is very chilled, like so chilled. You’re like ‘yes, I’m definitely on holiday’. The sandy beaches in Pollença are nice enough, with fresh clean water and soft sand. But I suspect you will find much better beaches in quieter areas so I think hiring a car is a good idea. The beach gets quite busy at peak times, but it didn’t feel too cramped or noisy, it was still lovely and quiet.

Personally, I found the quality of restaurants here was much better than Cala D’Or. There are plenty of tapas type places, as well as a few authentic Spanish restaurants, Italian restaurants and also some British ones. We actually had a couple of really delicious meals.

I don’t think there’s a huge amount to do here if you plan on staying in the city. You can do water sports and go on boat trips, or perhaps spend some time perusing the shops (I bought some lovely sparkly sandals), but that’s about it really.

Boat trip

So because we were there for a wedding, we stayed in Pollença with a group of friends. We decided to book a private boat, because between all of us, it wasn’t too expensive. We ended up going on a five-hour epic boat ride round the Mallorcan coastline.

We were allowed to bring our own food and drink, so we stocked up on plenty of Prosecco and alcohol, as well as tons of food. In our minds, we were rich people for day, and we pretended like we were living the high life on our very own boat (not that we’d scrimped together to hire the boat for a few short hours, shhh, our little secret).

We stopped off in all these little coves and dived off the side of the boat, it was pure bliss. The water was such a deep blue colour and the coastline was quite beautiful. If you’re staying in Pollenca I’d recommend going on a boat trip so you can see all the coastal scenery.

Palma Majorca, first impressions…

We managed to squeeze in one day in Palma before heading to the airport. I can’t go into too much detail as we were only there for about half a day. My first impressions are that it’s quite a charming city which offers the perfect city/beach break combo. There are lots of grand and impressive buildings to discover, I was especially impressed by the Palma Cathedral with its waterfall and sandstone walls that appear to rise out of the sea.

The restaurant scene is also pretty good, we ended up eating at a restaurant by the marina looking out on the boats. I’d quite like to go back to explore the city properly, although unless you are going to spend your time at the beach, I’d guess you would only need a few days to check out the city.
