How To Leave A Little Sparkle Wherever You Go

I got a card for my birthday which has inspired me to write this post. It says ‘You leave a little sparkle wherever you go.’ It really struck a chord with me. It’s a lovely expression, and it makes you feel as though you have something to offer this world. I intend to keep this quote in mind and try and continue to leave sparkle wherever I go.

I certainly won’t be super jolly and joyful, and smile at everyone I see, because that’s not me. It doesn’t matter what sort of personality you have, you can leave your own stamp on people. It’s what you do with your life and how you can enhance people’s lives that matter.

Lately I have been trying to do things that add meaning to my life. Real, genuine meaning, not superficial or temporary fixes.

Let’s face it, you only get one shot at this whole being a human thing, so you best decide what sort of human you want to be.

When I die I don’t want my gravestone to say ‘Kiri was successful in her career, made lots of money and was generally an OK person.’ No sir. I would much prefer it said something interesting, and reflected upon the sort of person I became. So I am trying to come up with some rules to live by to ensure I lead a happy and fulfilled life.

I don’t expect to save the world or become rich and famous. I just want to do simple things that will make my life, and occasionally others lives better. So if you, like me, want to leave a little sparkle wherever you go, why not try doing some of the following things.

Make yourself (and other people) laugh

You don’t have to be a hilarious comedian to make people laugh. You can make people giggle in your own special way. Make others laugh by the things you say, acting stupid and doing funny things together. If you get someone to smile then you will have instantly improved their day.

Try and see the best in people

If you only see the worst in people, you can live a very bitter existence. No one wants to be around people who always criticize and gossip about others. Plus people will begin to be wary of you and won’t be willing to trust you. Thinking badly about others can be very detrimental to your well-being, it’s no fun being constantly bitter.

Volunteer for a cause you feel passionate about

What cause do you care about the most? Volunteering for a cause that you feel strongly about can bring you great satisfaction, and it gives your life more meaning. People will want to hear your stories and will be inspired by your contribution to important causes.

Be confident

Confidence obviously has a big impact on the amount of sparkle you have. When someone is confident, it clearly shines through and others notice. Try not to beat yourself down or be overly critical of the person you are and how you look.

Help those in need

Be that person who is always on hand to help. Be there for your friends in their time of need, and help strangers who are struggling. If someone falls over, help them up, if you can see someone is having problems with something, give them a hand. Helping others will make you feel good whilst also leaving a clear trail of sparkle in your wake.

Be optimistic

things stop doing if you want to be happyPeople naturally want to be around positive people, because it makes them feel positive and chirpy too. Negative people are soooo draining, and they make you want to keep your distance. Make an attempt to be more positive and people will instantly warm to you.

Listen

You know what people often really need when they are feeling down? Someone who will truly listen. We all tend to natter on about ourselves and talk too much, rather than listening to what other people have to say. Humans can be a tad self-centered. Being able to listen properly is a very valuable skill, use it to leave more sparkle.

Don’t be afraid to be silly

Sooo many people are terrified of looking stupid or silly that they hold themselves back far too much. Let go. Be yourself. Don’t be scared of acting like an idiot just to put a smile on someone’s (or your) face. Life is much better with a sprinkle of silliness in it (I hope you are impressed with my blue steel attempt above).

Do something you love

If you are doing something you truly love, your happiness will be apparent to others. By feeling much more fulfilled, you will be able to be your true self and your happiness will be infectious. Don’t waste your life away in a miserable job that makes you want to knock your head against a brick wall.

Compliment others

One of the best things you can do to leave a little sparkle wherever you go is compliment people. Everyone loves a cheeky compliment. It’s surprising just how much a simple compliment can improve someone’s day. It doesn’t take much to say one nice thing about each person you meet. Try it and see what sort of reactions you get.

Show your true personality

Ain’t no point in trying to sprinkle sparkle everywhere if it isn’t made of your DNA. People will spot you faking it a mile away and won’t see you for who you really are. Anyone who doesn’t appreciate your real personality can bugger off. Obvs. Don’t live life behind a mask.

Notice things

it's not about how you look it's about how you see

Pay attention to the world. Notice what people say, and the amazing things that you experience. Be being more aware of what’s going on and living in the moment you will naturally be happier, which will rub off on others.

Love hard

I’m not trying to suggest something saucy or naught here. What you do in the bedroom is your own business. What I mean is, when you find love, grab it, hold it tightly in your grasp and don’t let it escape. Live fast, love hard and (maybe don’t) die young and all that. If you allow yourself to love, you are more likely to leave some extra special sparkle wherever you go.
